Kathmandu, August 27, 2026 — The Chinese Embassy in Nepal has rejected allegations that Chinese authorities failed to provide an early warning to Nepal before the disaster in Rasuwa, saying the claims are not supported by the facts.
The embassy also dismissed reports that the collapse of a geological disaster dam on the Chinese side was responsible for the extensive damage and loss of life in Nepal.
In a statement issued Thursday, the embassy said an earthquake or an earthquake-like glacial collapse occurred on the Nepali side on Wednesday morning. It said the event triggered large mudslides that caused casualties and left people missing on both sides of the Gyirong-Rasuwagadhi border.
The Chinese embassy called for cooperation between the two countries in responding to the disaster rather than assigning blame.
“Accusation helps nothing, cooperation saves lives,” the embassy said.
