Kathmandu, August 26, 2026 — The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell sharply by 35.92 points to close at 2,558.35 on Wednesday, with hydropower companies operating in areas affected by flooding along the Bhote Koshi River facing heavy selling pressure.
Hydropower stocks in the flood-affected areas recorded some of the steepest declines of the session. Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company fell 15 percent to hit the negative circuit limit.
Molung Khola Hydropower Company declined 14.99 percent, while Trishuli Hydropower Company dropped 12.95 percent. Madhya Mewa Khola Hydropower fell 11.56 percent and Sanjen Hydropower Company declined 11.18 percent.
Despite the sharp fall in the benchmark index, overall trading activity increased. Shares worth Rs 4.773 billion changed hands on Wednesday, compared with Rs 4.109 billion on Tuesday.
Sarbottam Paints moved against the broader market trend, with its share price reaching the positive circuit limit.
