Nepal Police reports 4,270 flood survivors rescued as 4,599 remain missing

Kathmandu, September 1, 2026 — Nepal Police has reported that 4,270 people affected by the devastating floods that swept from the Bhote Koshi River into the Trishuli River system have been rescued so far, while 4,599 people remain missing.

According to Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal, Kathmandu, the rescued individuals include 3,003 men, 1,254 women and 13 unidentified people.

Despite intensified search and rescue operations, thousands of people remain unaccounted for. Security agencies and other government bodies have therefore continued to prioritize search and rescue operations across the flood-affected areas.

Nepal Police Spokesperson and Deputy Inspector General of Police Abi Narayan Kafle said 3,453 rescued people are currently being accommodated in holding centers.

Of them, 2,466 people are staying in holding centers in Nuwakot, 260 in Dhading, 398 in Rasuwa and 329 in Kathmandu.

Nepal Police also reported that 581 bodies have been buried after the necessary management procedures. These include the bodies of 121 women, 198 men and 262 unidentified individuals.

Meanwhile, 56 bodies have been identified and handed over to the families and relatives of the deceased.

According to the latest police figures, a total of 1,010 bodies and human remains have been recovered following the disaster. The recovered remains include 30 boys, 35 girls, 209 women, 385 men and 351 partial human remains.

Police said the identification and management of recovered bodies and human remains are being carried out simultaneously.

The 4,599 people currently reported missing include 2,980 Nepali citizens, 581 foreign nationals and 1,329 people reported missing through telephone calls.
