Government prioritises relief and reconstruction for Bhote Koshi flood victims

Kathmandu, September 13, 2026 — The government has accorded high priority to the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction of communities affected by the Bhote Koshi flood, Communications Minister Bikram Timalsina said.

According to Timalsina, a Cabinet meeting held last Thursday decided to provide displaced families with monthly financial support for housing and living expenses until permanent homes are rebuilt.

Under the decision, families of up to four members will receive Rs 15,000 per month. An additional Rs 2,000 will be provided for each family member beyond four.

Families that do not wish to receive the cash assistance will instead be provided temporary shelter until permanent reconstruction is completed, according to the minister.

The government has already sent forms to the concerned local levels to collect details of eligible beneficiaries.

Timalsina said the initial assessment of losses and damage caused by the flood has been completed, while a Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) is currently being conducted.

He said rehabilitation and reconstruction work would be accelerated after the resources required for the process are identified and secured on the basis of the PDNA findings.

The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safe relocation of displaced residents, rebuilding damaged infrastructure and restoring livelihoods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and other areas affected by the flood.
