China’s Xizang sends Bailey bridge equipment to support Nepal’s flood recovery

Shigatse, China, September 5, 2026 — China’s Xizang Autonomous Region has provided emergency relief supplies, including equipment needed to construct two Bailey bridges, to support Nepal’s rescue, relief and recovery efforts following devastating floods and landslides.

The relief materials were officially handed over to Nepal at Rizi Port in Shigatse on Friday as Nepal continued efforts to restore transport links to areas cut off by the disaster.

The shipment includes Bailey bridge panels, reinforced suspension rods, support frames, bridge decking and I-beams. According to the information provided during the handover, the materials are sufficient to assemble two bridges.

The bridges are expected to help restore critical transportation connections and facilitate rescue and relief operations in areas affected by floods and landslides.

A banner displayed at the handover site read, “Shared Mountains, Shared Rivers — United in Weal and Woe: Xizang Rushes to Nepal’s Aid,” highlighting the solidarity between Nepal and the Xizang Autonomous Region following the disaster.

A separate handover ceremony was also held in Lhasa on Thursday between the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xizang Autonomous Region and the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa.

Nepal’s Consul General in Lhasa, Lakshmi Prasad Nirola, signed the handover certificate on behalf of Nepal.

The Nepali side expressed gratitude for the swift assistance, stating that the timely support reflected the close relationship between Nepal and China’s Xizang Autonomous Region.

The assistance was also described as an expression of efforts to strengthen the China-Nepal community with a shared future and the longstanding ties between communities connected by the Himalayan region.

The emergency bridge equipment comes as Nepal works to reconnect communities and restore infrastructure damaged by the recent floods and landslides.
