Shram Sanskriti Party holds central committee meeting without Kiranti faction

Dharan, September 1, 2026 — The central committee meeting of the Shram Sanskriti Party, led by Harka Sampang, is underway at Hotel Gorkha in Dharan, Sunsari.

The meeting is the party’s first central committee gathering since its merger with the faction led by former minister Sudan Kiranti four months ago. However, members of the Kiranti faction are not participating in Wednesday’s meeting.

Party spokesperson Satya Ghale said the central committee would first formally endorse the earlier merger decision before inviting Kiranti and members of his faction to participate in the party’s proceedings.

“Rumors circulating outside are just rumors. The decision to merge was not made by our central committee. Once today’s meeting endorses that decision, we will invite them to participate in the meeting,” Ghale said.

Under the merger agreement reached four months ago, Kiranti was designated as a senior leader of the Shram Sanskriti Party. Eighteen members from his faction joined the party, including one vice-chairperson, one secretary and 15 central committee members.

Before the merger, the Shram Sanskriti Party had a 23-member central committee. Following the merger, its central committee expanded to 41 members.

The party had also said following the merger that Kiranti would be promoted as its prospective candidate for chief minister of Koshi Province.

However, Kiranti said he and members of his faction had not been invited to the current central committee meeting.

“I heard that there is a meeting, but we have not been invited,” Kiranti said. “I do not know why we were not invited.”

The absence of the Kiranti faction from the meeting comes four months after the two groups formally joined forces and adds uncertainty to the implementation of the merger agreement within the party.
