Kathmandu, October 13, 2026 — Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Kagendra Sunar has denied being the person heard in a controversial audio recording circulating on social media, in which a man is allegedly heard verbally abusing, threatening and blackmailing a woman.
In a video posted on Facebook on Tuesday, Sunar said the voice in the recording was not his. He alleged that he was being targeted because he had raised questions about corruption within Nepal Police.
Sunar accused police officials of attempting to frame him by encouraging people connected to him to file complaints in exchange for money and other benefits. He also alleged that the audio recording may have been fabricated using artificial intelligence (AI) or other technologies.
He called for an impartial investigation by his party, Parliament and the government, saying he was ready to cooperate fully and face legal consequences if found guilty. He also said he was prepared to face suspension from the party’s central committee or relinquish his parliamentary position if necessary.
Meanwhile, the RSP has ordered an internal investigation into the allegations and instructed Sunar not to attend formal public events in his official capacity until the inquiry is completed.
