Kathmandu, October 6, 2026 — Minister for Home Affairs Sudhan Gurung has said that anyone misusing the state’s confidential information will be brought under the law.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Tuesday, Gurung said he had long been observing a tendency among officials and employees of the Ministry of Home Affairs and its subordinate agencies to neglect their official responsibilities and leak confidential or sensitive information to unauthorized individuals or entities.
“Sensitive information of the state is not anyone’s private property, it is a public responsibility. A position gives access to information, but it does not give the right to misuse it,” he wrote.
Gurung said even a small piece of information, a tip or a confidential detail obtained at the ministry could play a crucial role in preventing crimes, advancing investigations or establishing facts in serious incidents in the future.
He said anyone who knowingly betrays the trust of the country and their organization by violating the confidentiality entrusted to them by the state would not receive immunity and would be brought to justice.
