Kathmandu, September 19, 2026 — Nepal observed Constitution Day and National Day on Saturday with various programmes across the country, commemorating the promulgation of the Constitution on September 19, 2015.
The Constitution of Nepal was promulgated by the Constituent Assembly on September 19, 2015, establishing a federal democratic republican system along with secularism, inclusion and fundamental rights. The day has been observed annually as Constitution Day and National Day.
The main ceremony was held at Sainik Manch, Tundikhel, Kathmandu, in the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, the Chief Justice, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Chairperson of the National Assembly, heads of constitutional bodies and senior government officials.
The ceremony featured march-pasts, tableaux and cultural performances by the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, various cultural groups and students. Messages highlighting the importance of the Constitution, national unity and the strengthening of the democratic system were also presented.
On the occasion, the government has also been organising programmes including honours and decorations for individuals who have made contributions in various fields, special events by public institutions and government agencies, and the hoisting of the national flag.
