New York, USA, September 25, 2026 — Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has pledged continued support to Nepal for post-disaster reconstruction and recovery following the recent floods and landslides that caused loss of life and widespread devastation.
Albanese made the commitment during a bilateral meeting with Nepali Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, Albanese expressed deep sorrow over the deaths caused by the disaster and said Australia stands with Nepal during the difficult period.
The Australian prime minister also asked about the rescue and relief operations currently underway in Nepal. He highlighted the assistance Australia has provided so far in response to the disaster.
Albanese also expressed sympathy to the families of Australian citizens who remain missing following the floods and landslides.
