Kathmandu, September 19, 2026 — CPN (UML) Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said on Constitution Day that Nepal’s constitutional framework, democratic values and national sovereignty are facing a severe crisis under the current administration.
Recalling the hardships caused by the blockade following the promulgation of the Constitution, Oli said the historic document was established through immense public sacrifice and requires steadfast national unity for its protection.
Oli highlighted his former leadership in establishing the necessary legal frameworks, governance structures and social rights aimed at achieving the goal of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.”
Turning to current events, Oli sharply criticised the current government, accusing it of acting arbitrarily and undermining key state institutions. He alleged that official appointments were being recklessly politicised under the pretext of selecting non-partisan professionals.
Oli further alleged that the administration was playing into the hands of external power centres and transforming Nepal into an arena for geopolitical rivalry.
