Shanghai, China, August 18, 2026 — A highly anticipated bantamweight semifinal between New Zealand’s unbeaten Kasib Murdoch and Nepal’s Rabindra Dhant is set to take place on August 28 as part of the Road to UFC Season 5 semifinals in Shanghai, with a place in the tournament final and a major step toward securing a UFC contract at stake.
The matchup has developed into one of the most closely followed fights of the Road to UFC season, particularly among Nepali MMA fans. Murdoch enters the bout with a perfect 8-0 professional record, while Dhant has won 10 of his 11 professional fights. The UFC has officially listed the semifinal as Murdoch (8-0) vs Dhant (10-1) in the bantamweight tournament.
The fight is scheduled for August 28 at the Shanghai Indoor Stadium. It will be part of the Road to UFC Season 5 semifinal card, which begins at 5 p.m. China Standard Time. The semifinals bring together 16 fighters who advanced from the opening round, with the winners moving into the tournament finals and competing for the opportunity to earn a multi-fight UFC contract.
Road to UFC is designed as a win-and-advance tournament for leading MMA prospects from the Asia-Pacific region. Season 5 began with the opening rounds in Macau in May, where the bantamweight field featured eight fighters competing for two semifinal places.
Murdoch booked his semifinal place with a dominant performance against Japan’s Yunosuke Minami on May 28. The 25-year-old New Zealander defeated the previously unbeaten Minami by arm-triangle choke at 3:46 of the third round. According to the UFC, Murdoch gradually took control by closing the distance, using his wrestling to bring the fight to the canvas and maintaining control as the bout progressed.
