Kathmandu, August 25, 2026 — Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly attacking a female police officer who was on duty near the old Parliament building in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, on Tuesday morning.
The suspect, Raj Kathayat, originally from Tatopani, Jumla, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted the police officer following a dispute over crossing the road.
According to police, the officer had asked Kathayat to use the overhead pedestrian bridge instead of crossing the road directly, warning that crossing from an unsafe location could result in an accident.
Kathayat allegedly argued with the officer before suddenly attacking her.
Kathmandu District Police Range Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Thapa confirmed that Kathayat had been arrested in connection with the incident.
