Kathmandu, August 27, 2026 — Gold and silver prices declined in Nepal’s domestic market on Thursday, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association.
The price of gold has been fixed at Rs 320,900 per tola on Thursday, down Rs 1,200 from Rs 322,100 recorded on Wednesday.
Silver also became cheaper by Rs 10 per tola. Its price fell from Rs 4,975 per tola on Wednesday to Rs 4,965 on Thursday.
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell sharply by 35.92 points to close at 2,558.35 on Wednesday, with hydropower companies operating in areas affected by flooding along the Bhote Koshi River facing heavy selling pressure. Hydropower stocks in the flood-affected areas recorded some of the steepest declines of the session. Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company fell 15 percent to hit the negative circuit limit.

Nepal’s stock market extended its losing streak on Tuesday, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index falling 5.30 points to close at 2,594.27. Despite the decline in the benchmark index, trading activity increased during the session. Total turnover reached Rs 4.10 billion, up from Rs 3.23 billion on the previous trading day.

Nepal Telecom has extended its 4G mobile and internet services to the Badimalika area of Bajura, a major religious and tourism destination in the district, bringing telecommunications access to the high-altitude area from Monday. The expansion is expected to benefit local residents, pilgrims, tourists and government and non-government organizations operating in the area, which previously lacked reliable communication services. Information and Communications Minister Dr Bikram Timilsina inaugurated the service virtually, saying the government is committed to ensuring that people living in geographically remote areas are not deprived of basic communication services.

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell 19.13 points to close at 2,599.58 points on Monday, the first trading day of the week, as broad-based selling pressure pushed the market lower. Trading turnover also declined compared with the previous session. Shares worth Rs 3.23 billion changed hands on Monday, down from Rs 4.16 billion on Friday. The market recorded declines in most listed companies, with share prices of 229 companies falling. Only 47 companies advanced, while two remained unchanged.

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index declined 25.11 points, or 0.95 percent, last week as the secondary market ended lower despite a rise in average daily trading turnover. The secondary market opened the week at 2,643.83 points and closed at 2,618.72 points. During the week, the index climbed to a high of 2,648.57 points and dropped to a low of 2,608.38 points, resulting in a fluctuation of 40.19 points.

Nepal’s stock market declined on Friday, with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index falling 10.67 points to close at 2,618.72. The Sensitive Index dropped 1.54 points, while the Float Index and Sensitive Float Index declined by 0.61 points and 0.38 points, respectively. Trading activity also weakened compared with Thursday. A total of 344 stocks were traded through 59,805 transactions, with shares worth Rs 4.16 billion changing hands. Thursday’s turnover stood at Rs 4.40 billion, representing a decline of around Rs 24 crore.
