Rs 250 purchase wins Kanchanpur consumer Rs 1 million tax incentive prize

Kathmandu, August 15, 2026 — A consumer in Kanchanpur has won the Inland Revenue Department’s (IRD) bumper prize of Rs 1 million after making a purchase worth just Rs 250.

The purchase was made at Shiva Krishna General Store in Punarbas Municipality, Kanchanpur, and was selected as the winning transaction under the IRD’s Taxpayer Incentive Gift Plan for the first 15 days of Shrawan.

The IRD announced the lucky draw results at a programme held on Friday in the presence of Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle.

According to the department, the winning transaction was made on July 23, with coupon number 007315254493 selected for the Rs 1 million bumper prize.

The winner will not receive the full prize amount. Under prevailing tax provisions, 25 percent tax will be deducted from the prize, leaving the winner with Rs 750,000.

IRD Director General Bhishma Raj Bhusal said the identity of the bumper prize winner had not been made public in order to protect taxpayer confidentiality.

The department also announced 15 additional winners from transactions made between Shrawan 1 and Shrawan 15. Each of them will receive Rs 100,000 after applicable tax deductions.

The identities of the 15 other winners have also been withheld by the department in accordance with its policy of protecting taxpayer confidentiality.

The incentive scheme is intended to encourage consumers to request and use tax invoices when making purchases, helping strengthen the formalisation of transactions and improve tax compliance.

NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo draws more than 150,000 visitors in five days

The NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026 has attracted more than 150,000 visitors during its first five days at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu, surpassing the organisers’ six-day attendance target one day before the event concludes. Around 42,000 people visited the expo on Saturday, marking the highest single-day attendance recorded so far. Visitor numbers stood at approximately 29,000 on the opening day, 26,000 on the second day, 22,000 on the third and more than 31,000 on the fourth day. The Nepal Automobile Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) had initially projected around 150,000 visitors over the six-day event. The target was reached during the fifth day itself.

Nepal Telecom’s net profit jumps 47.58 percent to Rs 8.86 billion

Nepal Airlines revenue rises, but debt and costs keep recovery uncertain

Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has recorded higher revenue in the last fiscal year, but preliminary figures show that the national flag carrier is still likely to post a deficit as debt, interest payments, maintenance costs and other operating expenses continue to weigh on its finances.
