Kathmandu, September 19, 2026 — Nepal exported electricity worth more than Rs 5.09 billion to India and Bangladesh from mid-August to mid-September, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
The NEA said 565.61 million units of electricity were exported during the period through bilateral power agreements and the open energy exchange market.
Under bilateral agreements, Nepal sold more than 421.6 million units of electricity for over Rs 3.64 billion.
Exports through the energy exchange market generated Rs 1.4499 billion from more than 143.9 million units of electricity.
The NEA said electricity exports to Bangladesh are currently suspended after flooding by the Bhote Koshi River damaged infrastructure linked to the Chilime and Trishuli hydropower plants.
