Kathmandu, September 20, 2026 — The CPN-UML’s Election Review and Party Reorganisation Task Force has moved toward a unified report on the party’s internal reorganisation, with the immediate removal of Chairman KP Sharma Oli not included as a course of action.
The task force has been working to reconcile separate reports prepared by Vice Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel. Leader Pradeep Gyawali has also prepared a separate 29-page document after differences emerged over the earlier drafts.
According to Kantipur, the task force has agreed to take up broader party reorganisation for internal discussion rather than proceed immediately with a process to remove Oli. The report is scheduled to be presented to the party Secretariat on Sunday before the Central Committee meeting scheduled for September 21–23.
The task force had earlier received suggestions from seven provincial committees and other organisational units. Pokharel’s report had reflected calls for leadership transition, while Thapa’s report opposed making leadership removal the focus of the reorganisation process.
The latest effort seeks to bring the differing positions into a single document. The Secretariat is expected to discuss the report and set the agenda for the Central Committee meeting.
