Kathmandu, October 15, 2026 — CPN-UML leader and former minister Gokul Baskota has praised the Parliamentary Hearing Committee for rejecting the government’s proposed ambassadors to Saudi Arabia and Malaysia.
In a social media post on Thursday, Baskota said Parliament had finally exercised its authority and moved beyond what he described as a “grey zone.”
The committee unanimously rejected the government’s nominees for ambassadorial posts in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia on Wednesday. It also decided to put the nomination for Japan’s ambassador on hold.
Commenting on the decisions, Baskota said overturning the government’s unilateral recommendations had not been an easy task.
“It was not easy to break the single government’s recommendation. Perhaps there was no pressure? This break is commendable,” he wrote in his social media post.
