Kathmandu, September 17, 2026 — Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle left for New Delhi at 7:35 am on Thursday for a three-day official visit to India at the invitation of the Indian government, with post-disaster reconstruction and broader Nepal-India cooperation on his agenda.
The visit was approved by the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Wagle is leading a six-member delegation comprising officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Wagle’s secretariat and the Ministry of Finance, the visit will focus on strengthening cooperation between Nepal and India in economic, political and diplomatic areas, with particular attention to post-disaster reconstruction.
Wagle is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with his Indian counterpart, Nirmala Sitharaman, at 5 pm on Thursday. On Friday, he will meet Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.
On Friday morning, Wagle will participate as the chief guest in a high-level diplomatic dialogue hosted by former Indian foreign secretary Shyam Saran. He is also scheduled to attend an interaction hosted by Javed Ashraf, chairman of the India Trade Promotion Organisation, later that day.
