Dang, October 23, 2026 — Farmers in Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City–18 of Dang district have gained better access to irrigation following the construction of an artificial dam in the Rani Community Forest area, transforming previously dry farmland into greener fields.
The dam, constructed under the Greater Dang Valley Irrigation Project, has enabled irrigation in the Hemantapur area. Efforts are also underway to extend irrigation access to around 200 bighas of farmland in Dhankhanne, Sanodamar and Daudare, according to Govinda Nepali, chairperson of the local dam conservation committee.
Previously, farmers in these areas largely depended on rainfall to water their crops. The new infrastructure has made irrigation more accessible and improved water availability for agricultural activities.
Nepali said the dam had also helped raise water levels in nearby wells and dug wells, improving access to water for local residents.
Madhav Wali, ward chairperson of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City–18, said wells that used to dry up as early as March had begun retaining water throughout the year as water from nearby ponds and water bodies replenished groundwater supplies.
