Kathmandu, September 28, 2026 — Russia has expressed interest in investing in Nepal’s education and sports sectors during a meeting between Russian Ambassador to Nepal Alexey Vladimirovich Surovtsev and Minister of Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel.
Surovtsev paid a courtesy call on Pokharel at the Ministry of Education and Sports in Singha Durbar on Monday. The two sides discussed Nepal-Russia bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.
The meeting also focused on expanding cooperation in education, sports and human resource development, along with other areas of mutual benefit.
Pokharel expressed gratitude for the contribution and support provided by the Russian government to Nepal’s human resource development. He emphasized the need to further expand cooperation between Nepal and Russia in education and sports.
Surovtsev said Russia was interested in investing in Nepal’s education and sports sectors. He said exploring new areas of cooperation in these fields could further strengthen relations between Nepal and Russia.
