Former world champion boxer Zolani Tete has been shot dead at his home in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape, South African officials have confirmed. South Africa’s Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, said on Friday night that the 38-year-old boxer was killed while inside his car. A 27-year-old woman who was also in the vehicle was shot multiple times and remains in hospital. According to police, the shooting occurred as Tete arrived at his residence and was waiting for the entrance gate to open. Two armed men wearing balaclavas reportedly ambushed the boxer.
