Manang, September 28, 2026 — Two people have been killed and 14 remain missing after an avalanche struck the base camp of Himlung Himal in Manang, officials and rescue coordinators said.
The avalanche hit the base camp of the 7,126-metre Himlung Himal in the Nar Phu region early Sunday, burying tents and expedition facilities under heavy snow.
According to Tul Singh Gurung, president of the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, two bodies were recovered during the search on Sunday. The bodies were later taken to Chame and arrangements were made to transport them to Kathmandu.
The Nepal National Mountain Guide Association said the two deceased were climbing guides, while 14 kitchen and support staff members remained missing. The association’s rescue team, led by mountain guide Mingma G Sherpa, reached the avalanche site by helicopter and began searching for the missing workers.
The search resumed Monday, with rescuers facing difficult weather and mountainous terrain. A 14-member rescue team has been deployed to search the base camp and surrounding area.
