Gorkha, September 17, 2026 — A 50-year-old Singaporean national died on Mount Manaslu on Wednesday while descending from Camp Two toward Base Camp, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Lau Wee Seng. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Shrestha of the District Police Office said Seng collapsed during the descent in the Samagaun area of Chumanuwri Rural Municipality-1.
Seng had arrived in Samagaun on September 7 with an expedition team preparing to climb Mount Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest mountain, during the autumn climbing season.
Local authorities and expedition handlers are coordinating efforts to recover his body and transport it to Kathmandu. The body is expected to undergo an autopsy, while further logistical arrangements are being coordinated with the Singaporean embassy.
