Morang, October 1, 2026 — Three people were injured after a clash broke out between two groups during the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention process in Morang-6 on Wednesday.
The incident took place at the Sikdel Bandhu Samanwaya Pratishthan in Sundarharaicha Municipality-4 during the nomination registration process for the constituency convention. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Makendra Kumar Mishra, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Morang, the clash followed a dispute during nomination registration.
The injured are regional chair candidates Chumanarayan Tabdar, Chet Raj Regmi and Samundra Pokharel. They are receiving treatment at Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar and are in stable condition, according to police.
Police have begun searching for those involved and are investigating the incident. Security personnel were deployed at the venue to prevent further clashes and bring the situation under control. Police said conventions being held elsewhere in Morang remained peaceful.
A regional convention representative said the dispute began after a woman’s name was omitted from the list of representatives. According to the representative, she raised the issue while the meeting minutes were being recorded, after which several people arrived at the venue and vandalized it.
