Kathmandu, October 4, 2026 — The 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress begins in Kathmandu on Sunday, with around 7,700 delegates expected to participate in the party’s leadership election and discussions on its political and organizational direction.
The convention is being held under the slogan “Respect for Tradition and Commitment to Change: A Strong Congress as the Alternative for a Prosperous Nepal.” The opening ceremony is scheduled for 2 pm at Khula Manch in Kathmandu.
According to the party, the convention aims to strengthen internal democracy, improve organizational effectiveness and redefine the Nepali Congress’s role in response to the changing political environment.
The convention was initially scheduled to take place from October 2 to 5 (Asoj 16 to 19). However, heavy rainfall, floods and landslides in different parts of the country, along with the resulting disruptions, forced the party to postpone the event.
Under the revised schedule, the opening ceremony will be held on October 4, while closed sessions are scheduled for October 5 and 6 (Asoj 19 and 20). Elections for the party’s new leadership will take place on October 7 and 8 (Asoj 21 and 22).
