Myagdi, September 7, 2026 — A 72-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her grandson with a sharp weapon at Khabara in Beni Municipality-2, Myagdi, on Monday, with police saying the incident followed a domestic dispute.
The victim has been identified as Mankumari Ghimire. Police said her daughter’s son, 25-year-old Ashish Baruwal of Annapurna Rural Municipality-6, Ghara, allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon at around 11:30 a.m. She sustained serious injuries and died at the scene.
According to police, Baruwal fled immediately after the attack. A 15-member team from the District Police Office, Myagdi, led by Police Inspector Sagar Timilsina was mobilized to search for him. He was later apprehended while allegedly fleeing through Hadebhir in Beni Municipality-2.
Police said their preliminary investigation has also uncovered details about Baruwal’s recent return from the United States. According to police, he had gone to the US in 2021 and was convicted after setting fire to the restaurant where he worked. Police said he served a three-year prison sentence in the US before being deported to Nepal.
Police further said Baruwal had gone to his maternal grandparents’ home in Khabara during Janai Purnima. His behavior and habits had reportedly become a source of concern for the family, and he was asked to return home. According to the preliminary police account, a domestic argument later took place before the attack on Mankumari. Police have described the incident as having occurred during a household dispute.
