Kathmandu, Nepal, August 21, 2026 — A 22-year-old man died after being assaulted during a fight at Valley Boys Hostel in Shankhamul, Kathmandu, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Basanta Kalathoki of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City, Dang. He had been staying at the hostel in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10.
According to police, Kalathoki was attacked with a sharp weapon and physically assaulted during the incident. Police have identified 18-year-old Shekhar Yadav of Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City-3, Bara, and 20-year-old Pramit Patel as the alleged attackers. Both Yadav and Patel were also staying at the same hostel.
Kalathoki sustained serious injuries to his head and neck and was rushed to Civil Service Hospital in Minbhawan for treatment. Police said he died while receiving treatment after doctors determined that he had suffered severe injuries.
Police have taken Yadav into custody for investigation. Patel, however, remains at large, and police said efforts are underway to locate him.
