Chitwan, October 1, 2026 — The Chepang route linking Bhandara in Chitwan with Malekhu in Dhading has been disrupted by landslides, making travel difficult along the 66-kilometre road connecting the two districts and two highways.
A landslide at Beldanda in Rapti Municipality-11 has caused particular difficulty for travellers. Landslides have also occurred at other points, while the poor condition of the road has prevented the route from operating fully up to Malekhu.
The road project was included in the government’s budget speech in 2009/10 (2066 BS), after which the construction process moved forward. Landslides have affected the route for the past four to five days, forcing local residents to travel along steep and difficult sections at considerable risk.
On Tuesday, a team led by Chitwan Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal was also stopped on the road while travelling to Kalitar in the remote part of Rapti Municipality to distribute citizenship certificates. Rapti Municipality-13 Ward Chairman Ashok Kumar Praja urged Aryal to help clear the road, saying repeated efforts to address the landslide had not received a response.
The citizenship distribution team was also forced to cross the landslide-affected section despite the difficult conditions.
