Electric Hiace catches fire while traveling on Mahendra Highway in Bardiya

Bardiya, September 20, 2026 — A rented Foton electric Hiace caught fire while traveling on the Mahendra Highway in Bardiya on Sunday morning.

The vehicle, registration number Su.Pa.Pra. 01-002 Ja 433, was traveling from Kohalpur toward Dhangadhi in Kailali when it suddenly caught fire at around 6:50 am near Number 5 Chowk in Rammapur, Barbardiya Municipality-7.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Resham Bohara, information officer at the District Police Office, Bardiya, a police team was deployed to the scene after receiving information about the fire.

“There were only the driver and assistant driver in the vehicle, so there was no human casualty,” Bohara said.

The vehicle was being driven by 38-year-old Narendra Negi of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-3, Kailali. Police said there were no passengers other than the driver and assistant driver, preventing a major accident and loss of life.

Although no one was injured, the vehicle’s documents and cash amounting to Rs 42,000 were completely destroyed in the fire.

With assistance from a fire engine from Thakurbaba Municipality, the police team that reached the scene brought the fire under full control at around 8 am, DSP Bohara said.

The fire did not obstruct traffic on the Mahendra Highway, and vehicular movement remained normal, according to police.
