Driving license printing begins through new EDLVRS system

Kathmandu, September 20, 2026 — The government has started printing driving licenses through the Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System (EDLVRS), which came into effect on August 1.

The Department of Transport Management under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development introduced the new printing system to address service pressure and long-standing problems in driving license printing.

The new system is intended to make the process of obtaining a new driving license and renewing an existing one faster, easier and more service-oriented. Under EDLVRS, service recipients’ details uploaded to the system are sent directly to the Security Printing Center, which prints the licenses and sends them by post to the concerned Transport Management Service Office.

In the first phase, 3,081 driving licenses from Madhesh Province were printed and sent by post to the concerned Transport Management Service Offices for distribution.

Provincial governments can print driving licenses themselves by signing agreements with the Security Printing Center. Accordingly, the Madhesh Province government has signed an agreement with the center and is printing licenses under its own management. The Lumbini Province government also signed an agreement with the Security Printing Center on Friday and began printing driving licenses.

For provinces that have not signed agreements with the Security Printing Center, arrangements have been made for license printing through coordination between the Department of Transport Management and the Security Printing Center, taking service pressure and related problems into consideration.

With the start of license printing through the new system, arrangements have been implemented to manage printing responsibilities according to province and provide service recipients with driving licenses conveniently, quickly and on time.
