Kathmandu, October 10, 2026 — The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has clarified that internet service charges have not increased and warned internet service providers against charging more than approved rates or operating services without authorization in ways that harm consumers.
Responding to media reports about a possible increase in internet service fees, the authority said it had recently received no proposals from internet and email service providers seeking to raise charges. It also stated that it had not approved any price increase.
The NTA said fees charged by telecommunications service providers for their services must be fair and reasonable. It reminded providers that proposed charges must be determined in accordance with the authority's directives and submitted for approval at least three months before the intended implementation date.
The authority also emphasized that service providers must publicly disclose their approved rates. They are prohibited from charging more than the approved amounts, increasing fees without prior approval or operating services in unauthorized ways that disadvantage consumers.
The NTA warned that providers found violating these requirements would face action under the Telecommunications Act and relevant regulations.
