Kathmandu, October 13, 2026 — The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has fined 14 internet service providers (ISPs) Rs 50,000 each after an inspection and investigation found that they had violated approved service standards and licensing conditions.
According to an NTA press release, the penalties were imposed under Section 47(1) of the Telecommunications Act, 2053, after an inspection report confirmed violations of the terms of the licences issued by the Authority.
NTA Spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal said the companies were penalized for failing to provide services in accordance with approved packages, charging customers more than the approved rates, selling packages that differed from those authorized by the regulator, and failing to notify customers about such packages on time.
Aryal said the action was intended to curb unethical practices in the internet service sector.
According to the Authority, telecommunications service providers must submit proposed tariffs and their effective dates for approval at least three months in advance, as required by the guidelines on tariff determination. However, some providers were found to have failed to meet this requirement.
