Kathmandu, October 15, 2026 — Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has directed banks and financial institutions to designate contact persons to coordinate with police on cyber fraud cases during the public holidays of Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.
The arrangement is intended to speed up the sharing of information about electronic financial fraud, help identify suspicious accounts and transactions, and enable the prompt freezing of funds suspected to be linked to fraudulent activities.
The central bank has instructed licensed Class A, B and C banks and financial institutions to submit the designated contact person’s name, designation and mobile number to Nepal Police Headquarters at cbpillar2@nepalpolice.gov.np.
The institutions must also provide an email address that will be monitored 24 hours a day or used to respond to requests on an on-call basis.
NRB said the measure was introduced because cyber fraud risks remain during public holidays. Timely coordination between financial institutions and police is essential for detecting suspicious transactions and supporting investigations, the central bank said.
