Nyon, Switzerland, September 9, 2026 — The UEFA Champions League has paid tribute to the victims of Nepal’s devastating flash floods, with players and officials observing a moment of silence before matches and stadiums displaying a message of solidarity with the country.
UEFA announced that a moment of silence would be held before all Champions League matches during the opening week of the 2026-27 competition. A banner carrying the message “You are not alone, Nepal” is also being displayed at the stadiums as a mark of support for those affected by the disaster.
The tribute follows the devastating floods and landslides that struck Nepal on August 26, causing extensive destruction and a heavy loss of life, particularly in areas along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems.
The gesture has been visible from the opening matches of the Champions League league phase. Before fixtures including Real Madrid against Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund against Villarreal, Porto against Manchester City and Club Brugge against Aston Villa, players and officials stood together in silence in solidarity with the victims and their families.
UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said the European football community would stand together with Nepal during the country's recovery from the disaster.
