Kathmandu, September 15, 2026 — Australian cricket star David Warner has joined Kathmandu Gorkhas for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL), becoming the biggest international cricket name to feature in the tournament so far.
Kathmandu Gorkhas confirmed Warner’s signing through its social media platforms on Tuesday, ending days of speculation surrounding the identity of the franchise’s marquee overseas player.
The announcement follows an earlier post by Australian cricket organisation Seam Strike claiming that Warner would play in the NPL. Warner had also liked the post, adding to speculation over his participation. Kathmandu Gorkhas subsequently released a series of clues about its overseas signing, with the hints pointing towards the former Australia opener.
The 39-year-old Warner is one of Australia’s most accomplished modern cricketers. He was part of Australia’s ODI World Cup-winning teams in 2015 and 2023, the T20 World Cup-winning side in 2021 and the squad that won the World Test Championship in 2023.
Warner is also among the select Australian batters to have scored international centuries in all three formats. He played 110 T20 internationals for Australia, scoring 3,277 runs at a strike rate of 142.47, including one century.
