Aichi, Japan, September 23, 2026 — Nepal’s Tenzing Sherpa won bronze in the men’s under-84 kg kumite karate event at the 20th Asian Games on Wednesday, securing the country’s first medal at the Games.
The 23-year-old Sherpa defeated Laos’ Xayasan Vatthana 9–1 in the bronze-medal bout at Toyohashi Gymnasium.
Sherpa controlled the contest, scoring six points through yuko and three through ippon. Xayasan managed one yuko during the bout.
The bronze medal is Nepal’s first at the ongoing Asian Games and was won in the final karate competition of the Games.
