Night bus service expanded to six routes in Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu, September 20, 2026 — Night bus services have been expanded to six routes across the Kathmandu Valley to improve public transport availability during late hours.

The service, which began on the Nagdhunga-Airport and Lagankhel-Budhanilkantha routes on April 14, was expanded to four additional routes from Saturday.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Chandragiri Municipality and Budhanilkantha Municipality have partnered with Sajha Yatayat for the expansion.

A total of 28 electric buses are now operating on the six routes. Six buses each are operating on the Budhanilkantha-Godawari and Jagati-Ratnapark-Thamel routes, while four buses each are running on the Airport-Nagdhunga and Kirtipur-Jamal routes.

Another eight electric buses are operating in both directions on the Ring Road. Earlier, four night buses were operating on the Nagdhunga-Airport route and three on the Lagankhel-Budhanilkantha route.

According to Sajha Yatayat, night buses will depart from their respective starting points between 8 pm and 11 pm. The number of buses and operating hours may be adjusted according to passenger demand.

Sajha Yatayat said the service was expanded as demand for public transport continues to grow in the Kathmandu Valley, while the availability of public vehicles remains limited at night.

The expanded service is expected to benefit night-shift workers, airport and long-distance passengers, small traders, students and people who need to travel for urgent work.
