Siraha, September 20, 2026 — Police have arrested the main suspect in the death of Armed Police Force Sub-Inspector Laxman Prasad Yadav nearly 22 months after the incident, shooting and injuring him during the arrest, according to Siraha District Police Office chief Superintendent of Police Basudev Pathak.
The arrested suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Mohammad Kurban Mansuri from the Lalmaniya police station area of Madhubani district in Bihar, India. The District Police Office, Siraha, said Mansuri was the owner and driver of the Tata Safari used in the incident.
According to police, an Armed Police Force team had attempted to stop the vehicle near the Nepal–India border in Kachanari, Bariyarpatti Rural Municipality-1, following information that a large quantity of alcohol was being smuggled towards India. Police said the vehicle struck Sub-Inspector Yadav, who was on duty, seriously injuring him. Yadav later died from his injuries.
The incident occurred at around 3:10 am on December 1, 2024, according to police. At the time, a five-member patrol team under Yadav’s command had been deployed from the Kachanari Border Outpost.
Mansuri had remained at large since the incident and had been the subject of a prolonged police search.
