18-year-old pregnant woman’s death case: One accused remanded in custody, another released on bail

Syangja, September 17, 2026 — One woman accused in a nearly 18-year-old case involving the death of a pregnant woman in Syangja has been remanded in custody for trial, while another accused has been released on bail.

The case concerns the death of Sanju Lamichhane Regmi, a resident of the former Chhangchhangdi Village Development Committee-6, who died while pregnant on October 19, 2008 (Ashoj 3, 2065 BS).

According to police, a culpable homicide case was registered and investigated based on a complaint and details of the incident alleging that Sanju’s husband, Krishna Prasad Regmi, and Shanti Devi Bhandari, among others, had allegedly planned the incident and caused her death by administering an injection and medicines.

Police submitted accused Shanti Bhandari and Parbati Bhandari, both from Chhangchhangdi, to the Syangja District Court on September 20, 2026 (Bhadra 4, 2083 BS), after completing their investigation.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Datt Awasthi, information officer at the District Police Office, Syangja, the court ordered Shanti Bhandari to be remanded in custody pending trial on September 21 (Bhadra 5).

The court ordered Parbati Bhandari to furnish bail of Rs 75,000. She deposited the required amount and was released on bail while remaining subject to the court’s proceedings, police said.

The case remains under judicial consideration, and the allegations against the accused have not been established as proven by a final court judgment.
