Maharashtra, India, August 21, 2026 — Three members of a family died after an 18-year-old boy fell into a deep stone quarry at Khavyada Dongar in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on Friday, with his parents also falling while attempting to save him.
The teenager reportedly reached the upper section of Khavyada Dongar at around 10 a.m. following a family dispute and stood near the edge of a cliff. His parents and local residents soon arrived and tried to persuade him to move away from the dangerous area.
Police and fire brigade personnel also reached the site and joined the effort to bring him to safety. Firefighters positioned a safety net below the cliff while those at the scene continued trying to convince the teenager to step away from the edge.
Despite several hours of attempts to prevent the incident, the teenager fell into the quarry at around 1 p.m.
His father immediately tried to reach him and pull him back but lost his balance and also fell into the quarry. The boy’s mother then fell into the quarry after witnessing her husband and son fall, according to people at the scene.
