A 17-year-old Massachusetts boy has been charged with killing his mother and younger brother after prosecutors said he used the internet and ChatGPT to explore fictional “fantasy stories” involving the deaths of his family members. Arjun Aravind has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of his mother, Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and his 14-year-old brother, Siddharth Aravind, at their home in Massachusetts, USA. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.

Trump says he will declare Strait of Hormuz US territory after Iran defeat
US President Donald Trump said Friday that he would “soon” declare the strategically important Strait of Hormuz a US territory after what he described as the defeat of Iran, escalating his rhetoric over the waterway at the centre of the ongoing US-Iran conflict. Trump made the remarks during a political rally at a police academy in New York state. He said the United States would first “finish defeating” Iran and then declare the Strait of Hormuz part of US territory. Trump chuckled after making the statement and added, “It’s true.”

Luigi Mangione pleads guilty to federal charges in Brian Thompson killing
Luigi Mangione admitted in federal court on Friday that he shot UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan and pleaded guilty to two federal stalking charges connected to the killing. Mangione, 28, told Manhattan federal court that he had planned the attack, traveled across state lines with the intention of killing Thompson and targeted him outside a Manhattan hotel on December 4, 2024. Thompson, 50, was shot as he arrived for UnitedHealth Group’s annual investor conference.
