A one-off version of Ferrari’s first fully electric car, the Luce, has sold for $40 million at a charity auction, setting a record for the highest price ever paid for a new car at auction. The vehicle, known as “Chassis 0,” was sold by RM Sotheby’s during Monterey Car Week in California. It was the first production chassis of the Luce programme and had been specially configured through Ferrari’s Tailor Made personalisation division. The sale price far exceeded the auction’s presale estimate of more than $1.1 million. It also surpassed the previous record for a new car sold at auction, set by a Ferrari Daytona SP3 that fetched $26 million in the previous year.
