Jajarkot, September 30, 2026 — Police have arrested a woman in Jajarkot on allegations that she killed her 75-year-old father-in-law with a sharp weapon in Junichande Rural Municipality-5, Panga.
The suspect has been identified as Sharmila Shahi, the deceased's daughter-in-law. According to the District Police Office, Jajarkot, Gangaram Shahi was found dead near the staircase of his house at around 8 p.m. on August 26, with an injury to his neck caused by a sharp weapon.
Police recovered a weapon believed to have been used in the incident, identified as a sickle or khukuri, from the crime scene.
During the investigation, the deceased's eldest son, Raj Kumar Shahi, filed a criminal complaint against Sharmila on September 23, naming her as the accused. Based on the complaint, police arrested Sharmila from her home and brought her into custody on September 24.
The Jajarkot District Court has granted police an initial 10-day remand to investigate the case under the charge of culpable homicide, according to the District Police Office, Jajarkot.
